Michael’s Music Director / Conductor is the distinguished songwriter / arranger Herb Bernstein. Herb Bernstein’s career begun at age four when he fell in love with a violin he saw in the window of a local music shop. He took lessons privately for the next eight years and at the age of twelve, studied privately with the great Mischa Mischakoff, Toscanini’s concert master. Herb began playing club dates around the New York area, but since there weren’t many calls for violin, he began studying piano. He became very involved in recording and was lucky enough to have a lot of his songs published and recorded. At the same time, he was studying orchestration at Carnegie Hall, with Rudolph Schramm. Herb’s big break came when he met Bob Crewe, head of one of the most successful, young music empires. Herb’s first production for Bob, “Walking My Cat Named Dog” became a major hit. You may have heard of his next few endeavors, “See You in September”, "Go Away Little Girl”, “Wedding Bell Blues”, “Candida”, and “Knock Three Times”, which all sold in the millions. There are so many more, “I Got Rhythm” and “Leaving on a Jet Plane”, just to named a few. Herb’s production of Laura Nyro’s , “More Than a New Discovery” was voted into the Grammy Hall of Frame in 1999. Since then, Herb has conducted and arranged for every major artist in the business, and his record and tape sales have reached approximately 70 million. Herb’s album, “Pure Imagination”, featuring Julie Budd, has been rated top ten of the year by Stereo Review Magazine and Entertainment Magazine. For the past five years, Herb has been Michael Amante’s Musical Director and Conductor; his work with Michael is paramount in helping Michael’s quick rise to stardom. This past Summer Michael and Herb produced Michael’s third CD “Humbled”. Herb resides, with his family, on the Upper West Side of New York, near his favorite haunt, Lincoln Center. |
